Lucas Van Wormer was an American artist and actor who passed away at age 19 from complications related to pulmonary hypertension (PH), a rare lung disease.
Lucas demonstrated an early passion and aptitude for visual arts. He began taking art classes at age 9. He loved drawing with pencil and charcoal the most. Lucas was an accomplished voice over actor, with roles on Family Guy, Clarence, Steadfast Stanley and Lips Painted Blue.
Lucas voiced numerous national TV and radio campaigns for FOX Network, Seaworld, Target, Musle Milk, The North Face and FOX Sports. Notably, he was the voice behind a national PSA campaign focused on pediatric pulmonary hypertension research.
Lucas successfully combined his passion for performance and art with his personal mission, turning his condition into a platform for education and advocacy for PH patients and families across the globe. -
Lucas Van Wormer was a passionate and unwavering advocate in the pulmonary hypertension community, dedicating his voice and energy to improving the lives of patients and families affected by PH, turning his own experiences into a platform for education, empathy, and action.
His advocacy work, primarily in partnership with Phaware Global Association and the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, included PSAs that were widely distributed across social media, broadcast television networks, and even in New York City taxi cab TVs.
A major focus of Lucas's advocacy was the urgent need for more research into pediatric PH treatments, as none of the 12 medications available for adults were FDA-approved for children at the time of his primary advocacy. Today, there are now 2 FDA-approved targeted therapies for children. -
Lucas Van Wormer lived with an adventurous spirit that seemed to ignite every room and every horizon he touched. From scaling the sun-drenched peaks of the Hollywood Hills to learning to drive on Maui’s rugged lava fields, he embraced life’s challenge with a grin and an open heart.
He could often be found backstage trading laughs with Michael Bublé, getting the VIP treatment from the Gorillaz, or wandering the streets of Liverpool following in the footsteps of the Fab Four.
Lucas carried a lust for life that was bold, curious, and endlessly joyful. He had a wealth of lived experience that left stories in his wake and inspiration in the hearts of everyone lucky enough to know him.
